Because these core values of leadership, initiative, teamwork and bravery are core life skills that cultivate character, Cadets is an obligatory part of the Activities program at TAS for all students in Years 8- 10, and optional in Years 11-12.
Operating as part of the Australian Army Cadets (AAC), the TAS Cadet Unit is the second oldest in Australia. The Australian Army Cadets is a leading national youth development organisation, with the character and values of the Australian Army, founded on a strong community partnership, fostering and supporting an ongoing interest in the military.
Year 8 students are posted in C Coy and Year 9 in B Coy. In Year 1o, students are placed in A Coy, which has a stronger focus on Adventure-style activities. Girls have their own platoon and participate in the cadet program in line with the A Coy program. A Signals Platoon and Q-Store are also part of the unit.
Students can opt to attend leadership training at junior, senior and cadet under officer level, normally in Year 9 to 11. These students are then posted to leadership appointments at Section, Platoon and Company level.
For decades TAS has proudly supplied a catafalque guard at ANZAC services in the district, and is distinctly proud of the 103 Old Boys and staff who have given their lives in all major theatres of war.
